The Legend :
The legend is all about the great epic Ramayana.
Let us keep it short and sweet
As per a Telugu saying Ramayana can be put short in
just 3 words as
Katte = Ravana
captured Sita
Kotte = Rama defeated Ravana
Thecche = Brought back Sita
Now, that must be a bit too brief
The
story in actual runs like this
Way back in Treta Yuga was the demon King Ravana
who was a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva, hated Lord Vishnu and his devotees and went
on to the extent of troubling them. It is then that Lord Vishnu has taken birth as Rama,
the seventh incarnation to safeguard the good from the evil.
Rama was born in the Surya Vamsh to King Dasaratha
and Kausalya after much of a penance and prayer. The king was also blessed with three
other sons Lakshmana, Bharatha and Sathrughna to Sumitra and Kaikeyi. Over the years Rama
grew into a fine learned young man with all the good virtues and became proficient in all
warrior arts under the training of Guru Vasishta. Later he won the hand of Sita after
breaking the bow of Lord Shiva in the swayamvara. Soon when Dasaratha intended the
coronation ceremony of Rama, Kaikeyi sent him on an exile of 14years with the intention of
crowning her son Bharatha instead.
Rama being compliant to the word of his
Father and Lakshmana & Sita being concerned of Rama, go into exile. It is during this
period that Ravana captures Sita and Rama rescues her after a long battle with the help of
the mighty Hanuman, his disciple.
Finally Lord Rama gets crowned amidst the
excited citizens of Ayodhya and rules his people as a benevolent king with compassion,
virtue and efficient governance so much so that "Rama Rajya" is
rendered symbolic of prosperity itself.
Thus Sri Rama Navami is celebrated
commemorating Lord Rama as a personification of all the righteousness. It is also said
that a son and a King like Rama, a brother like Lakshmana, a wife like Sita
and a disciple like Hanuman are rare and may not be found again. Thus is
celebrated today, the eve for an everlasting peace, prosperity and welfare of the world.
