SRIRAMANAVAMI
Festivities Elsewhere :
Inspite of it being one of the most famous
Vaishnavite festivals, Sri Rama Navami is celebrated equally amongst those who adore Lord
Shiva also. Barring the common rituals like fasting and reading Ramayana, the festivities
of the day do vary slightly from place to place.
At Ayodhya, the birthplace of Rama,
a big fair is held on the day. Temples of Lord Rama are decorated to the best possible
extent and the images of Lord Rama richly adorned.
In Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and a
few other parts of India Satsangs are organised. These are public gatherings where people
from all strata gather to listen to the excerpts from Ramacharitamanas, glorifying
Lord Rama as offered by the learned.
In North India one can see the special Sri Rama Navami
procession with four people clad in the attires of Rama, Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman in a
gaily decorated chariot.
Whereas in South India festivities
like Harikathas narrating the thrilling episodes from Ramayana, the musical
performances of Keertanas and most of all the legendary Sita Rama Kalyanam form a
part of the eve. |
