AP TEXTILE INDUSTRY
Textiles of Andhra
Pradesh are mostly produced by the Handlooms employing more than 6000 weavers. Powerloom,
which requires processing units is rarely used.
The Weavers Co-operative Society
provides the yarn and other capital required for the tie and dye techniques and the
weaving. About 7-12 percent of the overall costs of the material is added to the price.
The National Handloom Development
Corporation and the Weavers Center cater to the needs of the Handloom industry. They
provide assistance to the weavers through the Handloom Development centers.
The handloom industries are concentrated
based on the consumer market besides the advantage of being in the cotton growing areas
and dense population.
The textiles of Andhra, which include
cotton and silk sarees, shirting, dhotis, furnishings etc. are in heavy demand both in the
National and International markets. |
