SHEET METAL
 |
The art of sheet metal is
yet another art indicative of the artistic talents nurtured through centuries in the
state. The art has originated in Pembarthi, a village in Warangal
District.
The craft dating back to the period
of Kakatiyas once adorned the chariots and the statues. With temples
proliferating in the vast Kakatiya kingdom, the Pembarthi sheet metal worker saw his fame
attract people from all regions of India. |
But, with the decline of the Kakatiya
kingdom the scenario has changed quite a bit. The art, during Nizam's period came under
the influence of Islamic culture and gradually wore a secular look. The artisans in the
later days were seen switching over to making articles of home decoration with Pandans and
Ithar pots being produced with great dexterity.
Among the few masterpieces of the Art could
be the idols of Natya Ganapati, Nandi, Nataraja, the Cronch, Lotus and Chakra
depictive of Lord Vishnu. Need to mention are the artifacts like "Gangalam",
the big vessels that can add to the beauty of any interiors and the famous historical
"Kakatiya Dwar" that could be among ones personal
collection. |
