Sri Tallapaka Annamacharya a
living Legend :
The all time saint composer, Sri Tallapaka
Annamacharya was a living legend of his times and the pride of Andhra Pradesh. This
probably is no ecstasy because, from times immemorial, children of Andhra have been
familiarised to music by the lullaby "Jo Achyuthananda Jo Jo Mukunda",
the famous composition of Sri Annamacharya. As a passionate devotee of Lord Venkateswara,
Annamacharya composed several poems in Telugu and Sanskrit eulogising His Supremacy. The
Universal appeal of Love of God is the hallmark of Annamacharyas literature.
Annamayya, as he is widely known, a saint
of many personalities with his music has enthralled some, carried away some with his
literature and elevated many others to devotional planes. He was also regarded as a social
reformer of his times. His compositions were rich both in the literary value and the
spiritual sense (Adhyatmikta ). His pleasant renderings have a profound impact on
the daily lives of the people and hence was aptly called "Praja Kavi".
The "Vaggeyakara" was the first to set simple words together to
create great compositions in a language understandable both to the learned and the laymen.
He being the first to do this was rightly called as "Padakavitapitamaha".
Annamayya Keertanas are the storehouse of
astounding treasure of compositions with devotion and Bhavam in proportionate
amounts that are capable of generating the "Rasabhava Spandana".
Abound by Dharma (duty), Artha (greed), Kama(lust) and Moksha(salvation)
is the marvel of his devotional compositions both in Telugu and Sanskrit at every juncture
of his life.
His glorious contributions have enriched the
devotional world and continues to enrapture the future generations also. Today, various
institutions imparting semi-classical music like Shobha Rajus Annamacharya
Bhavana Vahini at Hyderabad are seen their way propagating the
treasure of Annamacharya keertanas to one and all, not to mention the younger generations!
