MORSING
Morsing is the the smallest percussion instrument considered to
be native of Hyderabad. It is a secondary percussion
instrument
next to Kanjira and Ghatam.
Morsing is made of a circular ring with an elastic
thin iron strip called the tongue attached to it. This tongue, passing through the center
of the ring and in between the two arms, extends a little beyond the ring at one end and
is slightly curled at the other.
It produces a nasal sound with the cavity
of the mouth acting as a resonator. The instrument is held in the left hand with the fork
position held in the mouth. The curled end of the iron strip protrudes out of the mouth
and is plucked by the forefinger of the right hand to produce the notes.
