VEENA

Veena is yet another famous classical instrument of India and is well known to be associated with the Goddess of learning, Saraswati and Narada, the famous sage and musician (Hindu  mythology).

Veena has seven strings, four for playing tunes and three for drone notes. These drone notes help keep track of the rhythm called the ‘Tala’. A Veena player is called a ‘Vainika’. Veena as an instrument went though many stages of development. The modern Veena is seen to have around 24 frets while. Veena prior to this was considered to be having less than 20 frets that were either fixed or movable. Narada’s Veena called ‘Mahati’ must have been of this kind.
