Common Admission Test (CAT) for admission to
Two-year Post Graduate Programme in Management (PGPM) as well as Fellow Programme in
Management (FPM) is held every year. These programmes are offered by Indian Institutes of
Management --Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Calcutta and Lucknow. Two-year Post Graduate Programme
is equivalent to MBA and Fellow Programme is equivalent to Ph.D. (The Fellow Programme is
not offered at Lucknow). The Post Graduate Programme caters to those interested in
pursuing careers in management. Fellow Programme is aimed at those interested in research,
consulting and teaching. Your selection to these programmes is based on your performance
in CAT, group discussion, personal interview, scholastic achievements and work experience.
Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) is awarded to students who satisfactorily
complete the two-year Post Graduate Programme. Post Graduate Diploma in Management is
recognised as equivalent to M.B.A. by Indian and Foreign Universities. The title of
Fellow, is awarded to students who complete all the requirements of the fellow programme.
Fellow is recognised as equivalent to Ph.D. by the Association of Indian Universities.
The Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta (IIMC) was established by the Government of
Indian in November, 1961. It forms an integral part of the Government of India's effort to
promote studies, and research in management science as well as develop professional
managers in Indian Industry. Cooperating in the efforts were the Alfred P.Solan School of
Management of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the Government of West Bengal,
the Ford Foundation and the Indian industry.
Major Programmes offered at the IIMC are:
(1) Post-Graduate Programme in Management,
(2) Fellow Programme in Management,
(3) Post -Graduate Diploma in Business Management, PGBDM (Three-year Evening programme
meant for young university graduates in executive positions),
(4) Management Development Programmes and Extension Programmes for practicing managers.
The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) was established in 1961 by the
Government of India in collaboration with Indian industry and the Government of Gujarat as
an autonomous institution to provide education, training, consulting and research
facilities in management.
Major programmes offered at the IIMA are:
(1) Post-Graduate Programme in Management (General and Specialisation Package in
Agriculture streams), (2)Fellow programme in Management,
(3) Management Education Programme,
(4)Faculty Development Programme and
(5)Management Development Programmes.
The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore (IIMB) was established in 1973 by the
Government of India. The IIMB aims at augmenting the management resources of the nation
through programmes of teaching, training, research and other professional services. The
academic programmes of the Institute are oriented towards developing professionally
competent and value based management graduates. The Post-Graduate Programme alumni of the
Institute
numbering over 2650 are occupying positions of leadership in private and public sector
undertakings.
The major programmes offered at the IIMB are:
(1) Two-year Post-Graduate programme in Management,
(2) Fellow Programme in Management,
(3) Executive Development Programmes,
(4) Research,
(5) Consultancy Services and
(6) Seminars and Workshops. IIMB also started a nine month Management Programme for
Technologists in August 1992.
The Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow (IIML) was established in 1984 by the
Government of India as a national level management institute to help improve management of
corporate & non corporate sectors and public systems. The IIM undertakes a diverse
range of academic activities aimed at creation, dissemination and application of
management knowledge and practice. These include: Post-Graduate Programme in Management,
Research Programmes, Executive Development programmes and consulting services.
The IIML has recently set up the following centre :
(1) National Centre for Instructional Software and
(2) Centre For Information Management. The Institute plans to offer the following
programmes in coming years: (a) Management Teacher's programme (b) Doctoral Level
Programme.
