Railway
Recruitment Boards
Direct recruitment to post and services in class I and class II in
Railways is made through Union Public Service Commission. The posts of Assistants,
Stenographers and clerks in the ministry of Railways are filled through Staff Selection
Commission. Recruitment for the rest of Group C posts is done by the 19
Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) for the various Zonal Railways, Production Units and
other railway centers. RRBs advertise the vacancies through newspapers and Employment
News. There is reservation of posts for SC/ST, Sportsman, Physically Handicapped and OBCs
etc. as per Govt. rules. The eligible candidates may apply to different RRBs for various
posts provided they fulfill the necessary conditions.

Subjects for Examination:
Written Test(Objectives type). The paper consists of English, Arithmetic, General
Knowledge and General Intelligence in Hindi/English.The academic
qualification may vary from Matric to Graduation as per requirement of the Post. The pay
scales also vary from post to post from Rs.
3050-4590 to 6000-10,500 p.m. plus other benefits.
For technical posts, a practical test in the specified field is also conducted to test the
aptitude of candidate. For some posts such as Assistant Engine Drivers, Assistant Station
Masters, the Railways make the candidate pass a psychological test conducted by their own
specialists of the Research, Designs and Standardization Organisation (RSDO), Lucknow.
Though these tests they are able to know the level of mental stability and safety
consciousness of the candidate.
The recruitment is through the written test and interview. Candidates may reply in English
or Hindi at the time of interview. |
