Govt. urged to protect Yerukula Livelihood

The Yerukala Hakkula Porata Samithi (YHPS) alleged that the Karimnagar municipal corporation is killing the pigs of Yerukala community people and taking away their livelihood.

The Samithi alleged that the State Sports and Culture minister Mr. M. Satyanarayana Rao and Corporation Mayor Mr. Shankar were behind this action of the corporation. The YHPS demanded the resignations of both minister and mayor immediately.

Mr. Valigi Prabhakar Yerukala, YHPS, State President, said at a press meet that the municipal corporation officials are killing the pigs thinking that the animals cause diseases like brain fever.

He said the doctors cleared that the pigs were not causing the brain fever but the officials are showing lame excuses and killing the pigs. He said thousands of Yerukala tribals lost their livelihood because of the State minister Mr. Satyanarayana Rao and Municipal Corporation Mayor Mr. Shankar. They immediately should resign and pay Rs. 2,000 compensation for each pig killed, he demanded.

Mr. J. Goutam, Mahajana Party, State General Secretary, said in the year 1999 the High Court ordered the Government to provide infrastructure felicities to Yerukala Community people to farm the pigs and then only the Government can shift the pig farms. But the municipal officials are killing the pigs without creating any facilities and violating the court verdict.

He said the upper caste people have conspired to destroy Yerukala’s tradition and to shift them from plains to forest areas He said the YHPS and Mahajana Party will be staging dharna in front of Karimnagar district collector office against these killings on October 18 with 18,000 people.
