Pocharam wildlife sanctuary situated 120 kms from Hyderabad is named after the famous Pocharam Lake.It was declared   the area as wildlife sanctuary in 1952 because of its richness in floral and faunal composition.Pocharam extends over an area of 130 sq.kms with southern tropical dry deciduous with predominantly teak forest cover.The lake joining  the sanctuary attracts large flocks of migratory birds like Bar-headed goose, Brahminy ducks, painted storks etc.There is also an EcoTourism Center at Pocharam.

Fauna:

The main faunal species are Leopard, Jungle Cat, Wild Dog, Wolf, Jackal, Sloth Bear, Sambar, Nilgai, Chinkara, Chital, Four Horned Antilope.

Birds: Peacocks, Patridges, Pigeons, Quails and a variety of birds.

Flora: The floral composition consists of Teak, Nallamaddi, Garuga, Tirman, Satin, Mohwa, Chirongii, Chennangi, Abnus etc.
