This "Saideneema" tomb may sound unfamiliar to many hyderabadis, but it
is one of the ancient relics which is located on the Tank Bund road, few yards away from
Hotel Viceroy. This is a breathtakingly beautiful massive dargah, which till
recently was a neglected and a dilapidated structure. But due to the active initiative
taken up by the State Department of Archealogy and Museums, it is now ready to wear a new
lookRecalling its historical background, Sardar
Diler-Ul-Mulk constructed this tomb in 1882 in remembrance of his mother Saideneema. The
Sardar who was originally based in Mumbai settled down in Hyderabad before spending his
last few years in England. He died in the year 1892 in England and his body was brought
back to India and laid to rest adjacent to the Saideneema tomb, according to the Islamic
custom. Incidentally, under the Government of Nizam, his son Sardar Nawaz Jung was the
first Subedhar of Gulbarga and Warangal. Nawaz jung later held the post of Director
General of Post and Telegraphs.
This tomb has been grossly neglected over the last few
decades, except for some maintenance work being undertaken by the descendants. One would
be surprised to note that there wouldnt be any prayer sessions or gatherings, as
seen in any other tombs or mosques in Hyderabad. But instead, we notice Hindus offering
Anna dhanam every Thursday and Friday, since a portion of the land belongs to the
ancestors of late Dr Chenna Reddys wife.
M A Qaiyum, deputy director (cons), Department of
Archealogy and Museums expressed confidence that the conservation and renovation work
would be taken up within a month, which would be for the entire structure. He said that
the main aim of project is to bring back the lost glory of this wonderful monument by
reworking mughal arches, floral work on the walls, the minerats, etc using pure lime.
Lets hope for the revival of the past glory of this
wonderful structure! |
