DRESSING TO KILL …………………TIPS TO SET YOUR OWN DRESS CODE

Every organization has a dress code and we need to strike a balance between personal flair and official dress code and try to dress within the code of your office and never in your personal style. Today’s manifesto for office fashion is simplification. We all know which clothes in our wardrobe make us feel strong and confident. Be consistent in your dressing as people have the tendency to frame impressions. Unless you are a fashion stylist, try to be simple and stable in the most capable looking version of yourself.

Dressing in casuals, conveys the freedom of a job with low responsibility and people don’t take you seriously’ so reserve your casuals for the weekends. Dressing modestly either in a saree or a salwar (preferably in cotton) sends out the message that you are at work to get the job done. Always wear clothing that looks good but ensure that it does not get in the way of what you have to do and what you have to say.

Always own one great dress. A dress you love the most. It serves you like an armor. When you slip it on, you will immediately feel ready for an interview, a nasty memo or an aggressive cold call session.

It is sensible to dress sleek and three levels above your designation. It helps your boss to visualize you in a more powerful position. Watch out for new designs and make sure you set the trend.

Try to shop over weekends or take a days off for shopping your dresses. Always buy fabrics that can travel across seasons. Shopping after working hours is a big mistake as exhaustion might make you buy most probably what the shopkeeper wants to sell instead of the ones of your choice. Shop for work clothes with pleasure, you will automatically select the best. Check your wardrobe and do your homework before you go shopping for clothes.

Your ultimate basic wardrobe should be built on:

? Build up your wardrobe starting with wide range of Cotton Sarees and Punjabi Suits, as they are the best formal suits for an Indian woman. Cottons also make you feel cool, look traditional and formal at the same time. Make sure you have a variety on the patterns, and the make of the fabric. Try and not repeat the same pattern of dress.

? Collect some synthetics with different varieties of chiffons, crepes and georgettes for your peak winters and rainy seasons.

? Have a collection of sober, Designer Pure Silks and Tusser Silks. When talking about silks, try to avoid zari while you choose to wear them for work. Wear them when you are going in for special occasions like seminars, press conferences or when you are meeting an important client or when you are making an important presentation.

? Do not forget to shop for your casuals and evening wears. Though casuals are worn only during the weekends, you need to have a variety to stand out in the crowd. If you have to go out for a last minute movie you can slip into them and rush.

? Lastly, make sure you have a collection of your sandals and shoes to suit your dress. Always wear the right footwear.

Make sure you spend some time every weekend to groom your hair, nails and shoes, check on these before you leave for work. Grooming is more important than expensive clothes and it shows respect. If you master this it works beautifully in businesses where people actually have to look at you.

Don’t forget to organize your wardrobe at least once a month. This will help you choose the right dress for the right day without any loss of time. As it is said ‘YOU ARE WHAT YOU WEAR’. When you wear the right dress for the right occasion, you get noticed, when you get noticed, you feel confident, when you are confident, your ability to do things and get things done will improve. Needless to mention that success will be yours.

IT WORKS MOST OF THE TIME… TRY IT OUT.
